Let SharePoint remind you and your team of Important Dates, Overdue Tasks and Unresolved Issues via email.
SharePoint already has a built in Alerts feature but this is limited to sending out emails when items in your list are changed by users - for example when a new task is added.
SharePoint Reminder adds the ability to send out emails on date based events - for example it can constantly monitor a Task List and when an item is due send a 'This Task is Due Soon' email to the person who has been assigned to complete the task. It can also send out another email if a task becomes overdue.
It is very flexible and applicable to a variety of common SharePoint scenarios such as :-

FAQ
- Which versions of SharePoint does Reminder require?
SPR works with all versions of SharePoint including WSS v2 (or SharePoint Portal 2003) and WSS v3 (or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - MOSS 2007)
- How does SharePoint Reminder differ from the built in Alerts feature?
The existing Alerts feature is only triggered when something changes on the list - for example if a Task is assigned to you to complete. SharePoint Reminder adds the ability to send out emails on certain date based events - for example it can constantly monitor a Task list and send out a 'This Task is Due Soon' email when the Due Date is less than 3 days away. It can also send out another email if a task becomes overdue. The key is that its constantly checking the lists you specify, rather than only being able to send out emails when a user does something. See Common Scenarios for some examples of how it could be used.
- How do I use SharePoint Reminder?
SharePoint Planner is delivered as a SharePoint WebPart and an NT Service. Once installed on a SharePoint server you add it to a Web Part Page and then configure it to 'watch' one of your lists and send out Reminder emails according to your requirements.
- Does SharePoint Reminder need any client software or ActiveX/JavaApplets installed
No - it works using standard HTML only, no client software is required.
- How is SharePoint Reminder Licensed?
Generally it is licensed on the number of lists watched and the number of actions performed. See the Licensing FAQ for more details.
