- How does SharePoint Reminder differ from the built in Alerts
feature?
The existing Alerts feature is only triggered when
something changes on the list - for example if a Task is assigned to
you to complete.
SharePoint Reminder will add the ability to send
out emails on certain date based events - for example it could
constantly monitor a Task list and send out a 'This Task is Due
Soon' email when the Due Date is less than 3 days away. It could
also send out another email if a task becomes overdue.
The key difference is
that its constantly checking the lists you specify, rather than only
being able to send out emails when a user does something. See
Common Scenarios
for some examples of how it could be used.
- How do I use SharePoint Reminder?
SharePoint Reminder is delivered as a SharePoint WebPart and an NT
Service. Once installed on a SharePoint server you add it to a
Web Part Page and then
configure it to 'watch'
one of your lists and send out Reminder emails according to your
requirements.
- Does SharePoint Reminder need any client software of
ActiveX/Java Applets installed on the clients?
No - it works using
standard HTML only, no client software is required.
- What server topologies do you support?
The installation
routine supplied supports a single front end Web Server with a
content database either on the same server or a separate Database
Server. Extra
configuration steps are required for web farm installations.
- What languages does SharePoint Reminder support?
SharePoint Reminder supports all of the language packs for
SharePoint that have been released by Microsoft, including those
languages that use a non-Roman alphabet and require Unicode support.
However the Web Part interface, user manual and technical support
are currently only available in English.
- The Configuration Tool is showing that I am using a Reminder
Web Part but I have deleted it.
There are two reasons why this
might be.
1) The Reminder Service will only recognise that a web part
has been deleted when it checks it to see if any emails need
sending or the Web Part Directory is refreshed. If you have
set the Web Part to be
checked every 24 hours it could be a while before the web
part it is removed from the Licenses In Use list. You can select
Refresh Now in the Configuration Tool to perform a directory
refresh immediately and remove any recently deleted Web Parts.
2) You may have Closed rather than Deleted the web part,
please read the
Deleting A Web Part FAQ.
- I can't work out how to get it to do what I need?

.....?" section which answers the most common questions and by
